Lane Slams Door Shut On PAA Tour Team Challenge Title

Fishing comes easy to SpiderWire pro Bobby Lane, especially in his home state of Florida. However, lately Florida fishing hasn't been as pleasant for the Lakeland, Fla., native. Lane's luck changed this past weekend as he and tournament partner Gerald Brown won the inaugural Bass Pro Shops PAA Tour Team Challenge on Lake Toho this past weekend.

With a combined total of 64.64 pounds, the team captured the $100,000 worth of cash and prizes along with two new Nitro Z-8 and Z-7 boats with Mercury 225 Optimax and XS outboards.

"It's about time I came away with a victory here," said Lane. "It got pretty tough on Saturday, but Gerald and I were able to stick it out and capitalize on the bites we had. We pretty much sight fished for the most part, but we were able to also fish amongst the lily pads for some big bites."

The Lakeland, Fla., native was casting lily pads with a 6.25-inch HAVOC Bottom Hopper and pitching a HAVOC Craw Fatty in Okochobee Craw color. Utilizing the speed of the Revo SX 7:1.1 reel and the 8-foot, heavy action Abu Garcia Villain, Lane caught two fish during the tournament that went over 10 pounds.

"I like to fish with big equipment, and that is precisely what worked for us this weekend," Lane continued. "I used 65-pound SpiderWire Ultracast. Down in Florida that is about all I seem to throw. I can sense what is happening with my lure and it is strong enough to plow through the thick vegetation when hauling out the big fish. I've been a big fan of Ultracast for quite some time."

Lane's next tournament comes on a lake that he is very familiar with during the FLW Open. The SpiderWire pro looks to continue the hot streak on Lake Okeechobee February 9th – 12th.
