    Penn Torque 40 NLD2

Solid two speed reel. I purchased for wahoo and/or bottom fishing where speed retrieving is essential. Spooled with 80 lb camo braid.

    Love this reel

Bought this reel to be my go to Red Snapper / Grouper real and it is preforming to my expectations. Made in USA too with CNC machines.

    Best pitch reel for marlin!

Used this reel for pitch-baiting marlin in the Galapagos. We used a 60# and it was so good that we are replacing all the other pitch reels with it!

    25n pushed to the limits

I have been using this reel irresponsibly. I have been fishing the torque 25n as my night reel for bluefin over the past few years, putting on around 150 bluefin, with about a third of those over a 100#s up to just shy of 200#, pretty much maxing out the drag. I cant find a better reel for the size and overall very happy. BUT I wouldn't recommend fishing the reel this way, while it has worked for me, it isn't what it was designed for.

The Little Reel that Fought a Marlin

I originally bought my Penn Torque 25 Narrow for one purpose: bait duty. Nothing glamorous. Nothing heroic. Its entire job was to sit quietly in the rack on 16-day long-range trips aboard the Excel, rigged with a sabiki, catching mackerel at night for kite bait. I spooled it with 40-lb PowerPro Spectra and paired it with a light United Composites rod. I never intended to hook anything serious with it—this was my utility setup.

But this little reel ended up giving me two of the most unforgettable fishing moments of my life.

One slow day at Hurricane Bank, with no tuna on the meter and nothing biting, I dropped a sardine to the bottom just to see if I could turn the day around. What happened next felt like a personal redemption arc. I spent the entire night—from after dinner until about 2 a.m.—catching roughly fifty chopa. Every drop got hammered. The Torque 25 Narrow performed flawlessly, smooth and controlled, shockingly powerful for a reel most people would write off as “bait only.” I went to bed that night grinning like a kid, grateful that a nothing-day had suddenly become a standout memory.

Ten months later I was on a 10-day trip on the Excel, fishing Alejos Ridge. My 60-lb setup wasn’t getting touched, so I improvised: loop knot, 40-lb wind-on, Owner Mutu #2 hook, a sardine, and a decision to flyline it off the stern. I got bit almost instantly. We walked it up to the bow and it turned out to be a wahoo. Just as the deckhand dipped the gaff, the line snapped, but he…
