The PENN® Spinfisher® VII Live Liner features IPX5 sealing so whether it gets hit with a wave, or you let it ride in the spray all the way home, you don't have to worry about saltwater getting into the gearbox or drag system. Our HT-100™ drag washers are housed in a fully sealed spool to give the stopping power needed for big saltwater fish. A Full Metal Body and sideplate keep the CNC Gear System in precise alignment under heavy loads. The Live Liner feature is perfect for saltwater live baiting and freshwater free spool techniques. Available in standard, Live Liner, and Long Cast models.

These are the best fishing reels I’ve ever used for throwing bait from the surf for striped bass.
I’ve used and abused these reels for two years now—thrown them in the sand, soaked them in saltwater, and put them through just about everything—and they just keep going.
The Live Liner feature is a complete game changer when fishing circle hooks from the beach. Being able to let a striper pick up the bait and run without immediately feeling the drag makes a huge difference.
I’ve actually won a decent amount of money in surf tournaments over the last few years using these reels, and they’ve proven themselves time and time again.
If you’re looking for a surf reel that can take a beating and keep performing, these have been damn near bulletproof for me.

I purchased two Spinfisher 6500 ll’s in July. I had a warranty issue on one of them and Penn couldn’t have handled better. I received a new reel in less than two weeks. I also own 1 Slammer 4 and 3 Authorities and a good ol US Senator. I highly recommend buying Penn which stands behind their tank like reels. The photo below was caught on the 6500 spinfisher ll and an unlucky pinfish.

This reel handled Arapaima in the Amazon with ease! I never at any point felt the 8500 was going to let me down. I had actually purchased a Spinfisher VII and a Fathom II to test while on my trip, but the Spinfisher VII 8500LL was the favorite by far. I'll be sure to purchase a second to replace the Fathom II on my return trip!

Powerful reel. Using 50 lb braid with flurocarbon topshot. Caught Bonnethead in surf this week. Over four feet and 8500 handled it well. Only set to 20 lbs of drag took 5 minutes to land and release.

Great reel. Using it with 11 ft Carnage lll surf spinning rod medium heavy. Great setup for average fish at Texas Gulf coast. Plenty if flex with good backbone. Reel is very smooth. Just ordered another one today from Penn. I would recommend both for surf fishing.
