I bought this set up in September 2025 and have used about 3 times. After my 3rd time using it in February of 2026 the rod snapped as I was casting. I couldn't get a replacement through Academy because of the return policy. I was told I had to go through the manufacturer. Went through the manufacturer and still haven't gotten a word about them replacing the rod.😑

I use this while wade fishing in Port O’Connor Tx. We caught slot reds left and right. 27-7/8 was the best one. This rod handled it perfectly. Definitely my new go to set up for salt water Wade fishing.

I’m such a fan of Penn rods and reels! I purchased this rod and reel combo specifically to have a second rod and reel for a fishing tournament I was invited to participate in. I thought to myself as I cast out with my new rod and reel that I better catch a nice fish to justify buying a new rod and reel and right then and there I caught my first Red Drum ever!

We went down to Gulf Shores on vacation. Sitting on the beach I kept seeing these schools of fish swimming by. I asked an ol boy what they were, he said they were called Whiting. I got on YouTube and learned how to catch them. Made a list and headed to Hooked up Bait & Tackle in Gulf Shores. I went and got all of the tackle and headed to the Rod n reel combos. As a Penn fan, I found the Wrath II and didn't have to look any further. I didn't want to spend a lot and the Wrath II was $70. They spooled it with 12 lb and i was set.. I purchased everything and headed to the beach house to rig everything up. I went down to the beach and caught one after another. Long casts and great sensitivity. The reel was smooth and the drag was great. What more could you ask for?

I bought one of these combos in the 8000 size for my wife for when we go down and fish the Port Aransas area for drum, catfish and shark ( and anything else we can catch TBH). This combo has held up during long stints of fishing since last summer. The rod handles slinging heavy weight and hard hook sets with no issues despite sometimes using weights above the rating on the rod. The reel has also been great, it reels smoothly, especially for a reel priced as low as it is and the bail hasn’t shown any signs of wearing out. The only issue I have noticed is the drag knob sometimes turns and tightens itself a bit while the spool is spinning ( as it does when the drag allows line to leave the spool). I’m not the type to just lock down a drag and hope for the best. This hasn’t bitten me or my wife yet but it’s an opportunity for failure and I’ve never seen this issue before on a spinning reel. All this said, my wife just landed a bull Redfish in heavy surf and the combo performed flawlessly.
