After receiving my 7’ Elite MH rod and getting it put together, I took it out to the lake and made about ten casts before the cork handle broke under what could be considered normal use at the very most. Since it’s a brand new rod I was of course babying it and was highly disappointed when this happened. I love Ugly Stik for the toughness and durability they pride themselves in, as well as the 7 year warranty. But I contacted Ugly Stik days ago through email and phone call without any responses. Pretty disappointing so far.

I love Ugly Stiks. I’ve fished with more expensive rods only to be heart broken when they snap. I used this with a Lews Mach 1 Shallow Spool today and I found it to be very sensitive and light weight. I like that I can feel it load up on the back cast with 1/8th ounce lures. It’s light enough to cast one handed and I felt every weed my lure hit. I deducted one star because one of the guides is pretty wonky and doesn’t really align with one of the others. I can’t say it affects the performance, but it definitely is hard to unsee once I noticed it. I can’t wait to use this more.
