I use this reel to cast big lures in the SoCal surf, and this reel has everything I need for a successful day on the water. Starting with the drag, it is both strong and smooth, giving me the confidence to pull fish out of current, or away from structure without any stutter. The reel holds plenty of line, I use 15lb copoly and get about 100 yds, giving me the ability to cast heavy line without worrying about it bottoming out. Aside from holding a lot of line, the reel is a launcher, and I have no problem casting 3/8oz lures a country mile, however, I mainly throw 6-7in hard swimbaits in the 1-2oz range. If a lure requires me to work it with the reel, the extended handle makes quarter turns a breeze. I recommend this reel for your fishing needs, whether fresh or salt water, this reel can handle them. Also, do not let the small size fool you, this reel has brought in stripers, salt water bass and halibut no issue.

I love this real in the high gear ratio option. It is my go to when Fishing in the California delta and the frog championships every summer.. The the Revo STX has precision breaking. This allows me to make cast on the dime exactly where I’m wanting my frog to land ,looking for that next biggest bite..

The higher gear ratio option is key, especially Co Anglers you should really consider using a reel with the highest speed ratio when Fishing behind a partner. It simply lets you catch up to the line quicker when you get a bite, then set the hook and bring them in a little faster.!
